BEHIND THE SCENES AT DESIGNER STUDIO

MEET KATHRYN RANSLEY

The appreciation and passion for all aspects of interior, kitchen, and bathroom design I have is fuelled by the fulfillment of seeing the progression and transformation that any space can undergo. I enjoy working with colour, texture, structure, materials, layout, and have a great understanding of how we bring these together to create exciting and innovative spatial environments.

Graduating from Auckland University of Technology with a Bachelor in Spatial Design gave me the base, capabilities, and hunger to thrive in the design industry. To further extend my knowledge in kitchen design, I have completed the National Certificate in Kitchen Design and Diploma in Kitchen Design through NKBA

Design is a true love of mine, I enjoy working on both the functional aspects of design, creating clever solutions, and a space that works seamlessly for every individual client. Also bringing to life clients’ visions, loves and needs to design a beautiful, fresh, and striking centre of the home.

I see the importance of the relationship between the client and their designer. Pairing this with professional design practice, understandable processes, and an eye for great design, we can work together collaboratively to create stunning, cohesive, and personalised spaces. I take pride in utilising all of my capabilities to help any space reach its’ full potential and exceed clients’ expectations.

WHY HIRE A DESIGNER?

Many consumers can feel overwhelmed by the daunting task of remodelling a major portion of their home.  The average homeowner is not a naturally skilled handyman, especially with built in cabinets, so construction knowledge may be limited and can seem like a lot to learn.  That is why it is very important to have the right people with the correct knowledge and skill set to assist with your project.

If you’ve never done a renovation, when you begin the process of planning a kitchen, bath remodel or another area in the home, it is easy to be inundated by the sheer number of design options, selections and the numerous vendors who want to sell you items for your home.  This is where a designer can come in and help you sift through these options for you.  They can help you achieve your new ideal space, without sacrificing quality or your overall budget.

Save time
Anyone who has renovated a home or built a new dwelling from scratch knows there are thousands of decisions to be made. At the beginning of the project, your interior designer will listen and discuss your ideas, lifestyle and budget in order to prepare a design brief and scope of works.

A design concept is developed using mood boards showing key elements and style direction. Once this stage is complete, your designer can begin to make selections and complete any design drawings with your lifestyle and budget in mind.

Selections and specifications are documented by your interior designer and communicated to your builder or project manager so the project can progress seamlessly and efficiently.

Save money
Your interior designer will guide you where to spend your money wisely. Experienced designers are able to choose the best value-for-money finishes and advise where to splurge for future return. Listen to your interior designer’s advice to prevent expensive mistakes that are costly to fix.

In order to have a finger on the pulse in regards to the latest colours and materials, interior designers visit trade shows and previews before the products appear in suppliers’ showrooms. This ensures the most up-to-date selections will add years of value to the expensive areas of kitchen and bathroom fit-outs.

While it might be tempting to buy a product greatly reduced in price, your interior designer will be able to tell you if it is a wise purchase. Many building materials and furnishings are sold at clearance prices when they are superseded or outdated. Using the most current products and colour palettes will give your home long-lasting good looks as well as add value.

Save heartache
Interior designers have a skill set and trained eye to visualise how a space will look with selected finishes, materials and colours in an existing space or from reviewing plan drawings.

They also understand building code requirements – a vital skill to ensure the compliance of your project.

Combining function with form or aesthetic design is a priority for achieving the best outcomes, which interior designers are trained in. Professionals stay informed of new innovations with industry seminars and often have first-hand experience of a material’s suitability across different applications.

Professional training in design equips us with the knowledge and tools to work with various styles of architecture and decoration to create superior style.
